Every couple has a different style and from décor to attire, you want your big day to stand out from the rest. When it comes to planning your nuptials down south, one of the first big decisions you need to make before even booking a photographer is choosing your photography style – it’s all to ensure the end result will live up to the vision you’ve always had for your wedding day. To help paint the picture (ha-ha), we’re bringing the inspo with some of our fave styles to make sure every snapshot is worthy of the mantle!

Keep it candid

These days, a lot of photogs have adopted a photojournalistic style where candid and documentary shots are great at artistically depicting heartfelt moments in real time. These shutterbugs will treat your wedding like a feature or the top news story with you and your new spouse at the centre of it all. This style also allows you to stay present without worrying about the lighting, your pose and getting that perfect shot –your photographer will make sure you get all the classics and plenty of images full of. Another great way to encapsulate these memories is by getting your guests involved. Set those old school (but seriously trendy) disposable cameras on every table and let them capture the action as it’s happening!

Make it fashion

While the candid approach is a bit more casual and relaxed, on the other side of the spectrum we’ve got the editorial appeal. These images are much more posed – think Vogue. While more rare when it comes to wedding photos, many photographers specialize in this style and have built their businesses around it, so we’re confident you’ll find someone to make your dreams come true. Couples will have the spotlight on them (as they should) for photoshoots that have a high-end and luxurious feel, and this is a great option for destination wedding couples as you already have the perfect backdrop to each shot – paradise! Blend the beauty of your chosen oasis into your pictures for a truly unique memory of your big day.

Get a bird’s eye view

One great way to make sure you never miss a moment from your tropical nuptials is with aerial photography. While you wouldn’t want every minute to be captured from the sky, drone photographs are an add-on that has been growing in popularity so most established professionals should offer this service. These types of images are great for group pictures, ceremony exits and if you’re having an open-air celebration – think sweeping frames of everyone having a blast at your reception! One thing to keep in mind is that some destinations limit the use of drones or don’t allow them at all. If you have your heart set on aerial views, our expert Wedding Consultants can guide you to the right destination.

Set the scene with your surroundings

If you’re heading to the tropics for your wedding, why not make your environment work for you? Landscape photography is a style that has been established within the community for years but it’s only recently growing among those in the wedding industry. When you’re deciding on which destination is right for you, consider choosing one with a setting you’ll want to include in your big day, whether it’s pristine beaches, lush mountains, rugged countryside or charming city streets. Your photographer can scout some locations for a photoshoot held either before or after your wedding day (your choice!), where you and your boo will look amazing and create memories that you’ll look back on fondly.
