Travellers’ favourite resorts and destinations from 2021
As another challenging year comes to an end, we’re looking forward to new beginnings and even more sun and sand in 2022! This year saw the release of the COVID-19 vaccines, the reopening of some of our favourite resorts, the lifting of the travel advisory for fully vaccinated Canadians and even more airports being opened to international travel. To celebrate the new year, we’re taking a look back on some of our travellers’ favourite resorts and destinations from 2021.
New openings: Planet Hollywood Cancun
After opening its doors in January, Planet Hollywood Cancun An Autograph Collection All Inclusive Resort became an instant favourite amongst luxury lovers. The entertainment-themed property in the exclusive enclave of Playa Mujeres offers unique experiences where guests can Vacation Like a Star™ with curated activities, A-lister amenities and gourmet dining options. There’s lots of authentic Hollywood memorabilia incorporated into the resort’s sophisticated décor, in addition to an on-site movie theatre where you can catch the latest flick, not one but two water parks, a mystical maze and the first-ever Planet Play with an indoor trampoline park ($).
Returning favourites: Cuba
The breathtaking island of Cuba has been a perennial favourite of Canadian travellers for decades – and now that it’s recently been deemed one of our Easy Entry Destinations, it’s going to finish off the year even more popular than before. After almost a year of not flying to the island, we announced the return of flight service to Varadero and Cayo Coco in the fall and received an overwhelming response. With its pristine white-sand beaches, vibrant culture and friendly people, it’s no wonder our travellers were so excited to head back! Some of the most popular resorts across the island included Royalton Hicacos Resort & Spa, Memories Flamenco Beach Resort and Pullman Cayo Coco.
Group-friendly spots: Royalton Riviera Cancun
Following over a year of not being able to celebrate life’s big moments together, we saw an increasing number of group bookings throughout 2021. From weddings back home that had been postponed to family reunions and vacations with friends, travelling to an all inclusive resort became a convenient and fun choice for groups! One of our most popular resorts amongst groups from this year (and years prior) is Royalton Riviera Cancun, An Autograph Collection All Inclusive Resort & Casino. The sprawling complex in Riviera Maya offers something for all ages and interests, including the exclusive Hideaway resort-within-a-resort that’s just for adults. Plus, groups of ten adults or more receive exclusive perks and pricing!
Exotic destinations: Pacific Mexico
Two years of built-up wanderlust have more and more travellers dreaming of exploring exotic destinations – and Pacific Mexico certainly fits the bill. From the magical coastline of Los Cabos to the golden-sand shores of Mazatlán and the vibrant culture of Puerto Vallarta, all of our Pacific Mexico destinations were increasingly popular this year. Flights to the popular destination of Los Cabos resumed in September, with flights to other exotic locales along Mexico’s Pacific Coast resuming this month right in time for the holiday season. The most-booked resorts include Riu Emerald Bay, Riu Vallarta and Riu Santa Fe.
