Safety first
First and foremost, one of the top wedding trends for 2021 is to make sure that safety comes first. Safety is one of the top considerations when planning a wedding in 2021, which is why we’re expecting to see a shift to more outdoor weddings and smaller guest lists to maintain social distancing protocols (with live streams set up for guests back home). Plus, there are plenty of ways you can blend safety features with your wedding aesthetic! Set up decorative hand sanitizer stations around your ceremony and reception venues, hand out personalized masks and give your guests welcome care packages that include bottles of hand sanitizer.
Light up the night
With a shift to outdoor weddings, lighting will become a huge décor focus in 2021 to reflect and enhance your destination’s natural beauty. The right lighting can create a romantic and inviting atmosphere and will look gorgeous in your wedding photos! Some of our favourite options include twinkle/fairy light canopies over your reception space, retro market lights strung between palm trees, elaborate chandeliers hanging over your sweetheart table and candles lining the aisle or incorporated into your centrepieces. Giant neon light signs are also a popular choice that we expect to see more of in the year ahead.
Bright and vibrant colour schemes
Gone are the days of neutral tones and soft colour palettes – when it comes to 2021, we’re all about the bright and bold! After the difficult year that was 2020, couples want to incorporate cheerful and playful elements into their wedding décor wherever possible. Vibrant colours are making a comeback this year with shades in every colour under the sun from jewel blue to blazing orange, electric pink and more. You can incorporate your bright colour palette anywhere and everywhere, from your bridal bouquet and boutonniere to your centrepieces, table linens and reception furniture.
Geometric and circular arches
Instead of the traditional square or rectangle, we’re seeing a lot of geometric and circular shapes being used for ceremony arches. These unique arches are a great way to add a modern element to a natural beach setting and are a beautiful statement piece that’ll look great in your wedding photos. You can keep things simple by using a metallic gold geometric arch or decorate a circular arch with lush greenery and vibrantly coloured florals. A circular arch also comes with a beautiful meaning, as a circle represents eternity – perfect for when you and your loved one and starting your forever together!
Rattan everything
Rattan is a huge emerging trend for destination weddings this year. From aisle runners to charger plates, light fixtures, furniture and table settings, there are plenty of ways you can incorporate the material into your big day. The material is a naturally growing vine that is native to tropical regions, making it the perfect choice for your tropical-themed wedding. The natural colour of the material goes with almost any colour scheme, whether you’re going for the trendy vibrant hues or softer shades of pink and white.
Tasty treat options
The traditional multi-tiered cake is still a popular choice for weddings in 2021, but lots of couples are also opting to have a sweet treats table instead of or in addition to their main cake! Not only in a dessert table a great option for couples with sweet tooths, but it also provides your guests with more options. Plus, you and your sweetheart won’t have to choose your favourite cake flavour – you can use a few for each tier of your main cake, and have the rest made into cupcakes for your sweet treats table!
