Where it all started

First impressions aren’t always a true judge of character and that was certainly the case for Victoria and Omid. The two first met at LA Fitness where they worked together for three years before exploring a romantic connection. At first, Victoria and Omid only saw each other as friends but on one fateful day, Omid invited Victoria out for their first date and what would become the start of an incredible life together.

It didn’t take long to know they were meant to be. After a trip to visit Omid’s parents, Victoria knew things were getting serious but for Omid, it was after their first vacation together (with Sunwing, no less!) that he could see her as his forever love. It was a cool November night in 2020, however, that sealed the deal as Omid got down on one knee during a perfectly planned game of charades at a “Friends-mas dinner”, with those they love surrounding them or watching via FaceTime.

Planning the wedding

It was never a question as to what type of wedding Victoria and Omid would have – both were set on a destination wedding from the start and after much research, landed on Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf and Spa Resort by AMR Collection in Playa Mujeres, Mexico. Its spacious grounds, upscale atmosphere, modern amenities and positive reviews on the customer service and culinary offerings were some of the many reasons why this resort was the perfect choice.

Wedding day details

On a beautiful day in March, Victoria and Omid stood barefoot beneath a canopy-style archway and said “I do” during a beachfront ceremony with their friends and family in attendance. Afterwards, Victoria, Omid and their 30 guests retreated to the resort’s pool terrace for the reception, a beautiful space that resembled the ocean as the sun set and complemented the couple’s modern yet boho décor style with natural tones and tropical pale pink shades sprinkled throughout. With so many unforgettable moments, for Victoria and Omid, its hard to beat marrying your best friend in paradise and sharing your dream first dance among those you love.

The groomsmen also performed a Persian knife dance known as Ragsheh Chagoo where to cut the cake, the couple must first earn the knife.

Tips for future wedding couples

Planning a destination wedding is way less stressful than expected but be prepared to allocate more time to communications. Have your Pinterest page at the ready and don’t be shy with sending as much inspo as possible to your wedding planner to ensure the perfect day, and be firm with what you want. We also recommend you take your time and do your research; we looked to YouTube vloggers, watched multiple videos comparing resorts and went to Trip Advisor for reviews. All this to say, what’s most important is that you have fun! You get to marry the love of your life in a picturesque, sunny destination, so enjoy the process and try not to sweat the little things because at the end of the day, it will all come together beautifully.
