Where it all started

Micaela and Roberto attended the same high school, but they didn’t know one another so their love story didn’t begin until five years later when they finally met at a local bar. The pair were introduced by mutual friends and sparks flew instantly – they shared the same sense of humor, connected on every level and went on to spend nearly every day together. After only six months together, Roberto was certain that Micaela was the one.

Roberto planned to pop the question on their trip to New York City to celebrate the July long weekend with his family. He envisioned taking Micaela to a stylish rooftop bar and getting down on one knee against the backdrop of panoramic city views, but a rain-filled forecast jeopardized his plans. Fortunately, luck was on his side and the sun stayed out just long enough for Roberto to surprise his bride-to-be with glistening engagement ring!

Planning the wedding

With Roberto’s family living in El Salvador and Micaela’s family living in Canada, a destination wedding made perfect sense. Both Roberto and Micaela are very family-oriented, so they loved the idea of their families spending an entire week getting to know each other and creating lifelong bonds, something that would have been impossible during a one-day wedding at home.

Having previously travelled to Playa del Carmen for a music festival and fallen in love with the delectable food, charming culture and vibrant atmosphere, it was an obvious choice for their tropical nuptials. When looking for the perfect resort to host their weeklong celebrations, many of their close friends and family recommended Grand Sunset Princess All Suites and Spa for its upscale accommodations, gourmet dining options and impeccable beachfront location.

Day details

On November 14, 2018, Roberto and Micaela hosted a glamorous ceremony on the Sunset Gazebo at the Chill Out Beach Club. The couple exchanged their vows against the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea surrounded by lush tropical foliage and 70 close friends and family members. For the reception, the party moved over to the Chill Out Beach Club which was elegantly decorated in their colour schemes of blush, gold and ivory. Both Roberto and Micaela particularly enjoyed listening to the heartfelt speeches and toasting to forever with their newly-joined families.
