Where it all started

It was fate disguised as misfortune that brought Jonathan and Devon together. Devon had to undergo physiotherapy after a workplace injury and, by luck, ended up receiving treatment at the clinic Jonathan worked at. One afternoon, the pair passed by one another in the hallway and exchanged a single glance, after which they both knew that they wanted to get to know each other.

For their first official date, Jon accompanied Devon on a work trip to Toronto. Both Jon and Devon were from the Sudbury area and Jon had never really explored Toronto before, so Devon planned a fun-filled afternoon exploring the sights and having lunch at a local pub followed by an evening of bar-hopping around The Village and watching Kinky Boots at the theatre.

Devon soon knew that he wanted to ask Jon to spend forever with him and planned to propose during their vacation in Barcelona; unfortunately, the pair had to postpone their vacation due to family complications. Not wanting to wait any longer to ask Jon to marry him, Devon decided to recreate their first date while they were visiting Toronto over Jon’s birthday, and popped the question in a packed pub much to the surprise of his groom-to-be!

Planning the wedding

Devon and Jon were certain that they wanted to get married somewhere tropical. They settled on celebrating in Puerto Vallarta considering its LGBTQ+ friendly reputation and gorgeous scenery.

After extensive research and help from their Wedding Vacations consultant, the happy couple booked their big day at Riu Palace Pacifico. This resort checked all of their boxes; it had a stunning beach, beautiful facilities and exceptional reviews!

Day details

On April 11th, 2019, Jon and Devon shared their first married kiss on a sparkling beach overlooking the ocean. Afterwards, the newlyweds and their 16 guests celebrated with an elegant reception at La Toscana Steakhouse.

Of the many magical moments from their wedding day, Jon and Devon agree that their favourite was walking from the hotel to their seaside ceremony. Although they both felt nervous, they were instantly at ease when they heard the resort staff and fellow guests cheering them on as they made their way down the aisle. They were both overwhelmed by the amount of support they received from a community that they had only known for a few days and said it was a feeling they’ll cherish for a lifetime.
