Spring Break is normally the time of year where we pack up our bags and head down to paradise. While lying on a tropical beach and splashing around the resort pool may not be an option right now there are still plenty of ways to enjoy a safe and fun Spring Break at home. Read on for some of our favourite ways to plan the ultimate staycation that everyone in the family will love.

Have breakfast in bed

One of the best parts of going on vacation is the little luxuries you might not get to enjoy every day at home – like ordering room service and having breakfast in bed. While you might not be able to enjoy your morning coffee and eggs with an ocean view, you can still whip up a delicious meal to eat in your PJs. Prep your breakfast the night before and then reheat it in the oven when you wake up so you can maximize your lounging time. To add a tropical twist, try making some destination-inspired breakfast dishes like chilaquiles or huevos rancheros.

Keep the kids entertained

Since the little ones won’t be having a blast at the resort kids club, the team at Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Cancun shared their popular Slime recipe that the kids are sure to love.

How to make Slime:

  • Add ½ cup of water OR ½ cup of shaving cream to a pot and mix it with ½ cup of white water-based glue.
  • Mix in food colouring or water-based paint.
  • Pour in ¼ cup of liquid detergent and watch the slime start to form!
  • Add in any glitter or pearls you want and knead the mixture for 10-20 minutes until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • Have a blast playing with your slime!

Camp out in the backyard (or your living room)

It might not be an oceanview suite, but while we’re all staying at home, camping out in the backyard or the living room is the next best thing. If the weather where you live is warm enough and you have a backyard, set up a tent outside with sleeping bags and flashlights for an overnight adventure. Campfires and smores are highly recommended! If it’s still a bit too chilly out or if you don’t have access to a backyard, you’ll still have a blast setting up the ultimate blanket fort in your living room. String up some battery-powered fairy lights to complete the look, then share your favourite vacation memories with your fellow camp-goers to get you inspired for when you can return to paradise!

Organize a fun-filled game night

While you might not be able to head to the big theme parks this spring break, you can plan an exciting game night at home. If you were dreaming of heading to Walt Disney World®, get in the mindset of your favourite Disney villains with the Disney Villainous board game or practice surgery on The Child with a Mandalorian edition of Operation. Missed out on a trip to Universal Orlando™? You can still get lost in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with the Wizards Chess Game or a Harry Potter-themed game of CLUE®.

Try a new restaurant for take out

Travelling to new places means tasting new dishes and sampling the local cuisine. We’d all rather be savouring enchiladas on the shores of Cancun or indulging in gallo pinto in the Costa Rican rainforest, but in the meantime you can still try something new for dinner on your staycation. Set aside your favourite takeout menus and peruse the Caribbean and Mexican cuisine options on your favourite delivery app. Not only will you get to try out exotic dishes, you’ll also be supporting your local restaurant industry!
