One of the most important parts of any wedding is the florals. Whether it’s a lush bouquet, an au naturel centrepiece or a flower petal aisle there are new floral trends popping up every season. Cool Green & Shady is a floral studio in Toronto with an expert team of designers whose gorgeous floral creations have been feature in Wedding Bells, Elegant Weddings, House & Home and on the Marilyn Dennis Show. We chatted with Amber, the owner of Cool Green & Shady, who shared her favourite upcoming floral trends for 2018!

Trend #1: Au Naturel

One of the biggest upcoming floral trends for destination weddings is the au naturel look. Incorporating a lot of natural greenery – especially foliage local to the region – not only looks beautiful, it can also save on the cost of importing flowers from other destinations. We also love the natural look for bridal bouquets, where the bouquet is designed in a loose crescent shape with the flowers’ height adding depth and volume.

Trend #2: Express Yourself

The best floral centrepieces are the ones that express you as a couple and help illustrate your love story. It could be as simple as wine bottle vases from special moments in your life to incorporating collectibles from places you have travelled together. We always encourage couples to add something unique to them into their centrepieces because that is what your guests are going to remember – not the types of florals you had or the colour scheme you used, but the personalized details that made your wedding extra-special.

Trend #3: Dangling Decor

An upcoming floral trend for 2018 we are really excited about is incorporating hanging flowers into your decor. Instead of having large floral arrangements on either side of the aisle to frame the ceremony space, brides are decorating their venue with hanging floral arrangements, which give the space an ethereal vibe. This trend looks particularly lovely at a destination wedding – we recommend hanging floral arrangements from your venue’s beach gazebo or hanging some smaller floral arrangements from surrounding palm trees.

Trend #4: Purple, Purple, Purple

The hot up-and-coming colour scheme for wedding florals is purple – any and all shades of purple! The colour is a gorgeous option for beach weddings because it really complements the blue of the ocean and a colourful Caribbean sunset. You can play with different shades in your bouquet or incorporate various hues into your decor and centrepieces. Purple is also a very gender-neutral colour so your groom or groomsmen won’t feel like they’re drowning in a sea of pink petals!
