Even more common wedding mishaps to avoid
Earlier this spring, we rounded up some of our top wedding mishaps to avoid for your big day in paradise – and now, we’re back for part two! Our wedding experts put together more of the mistakes you should prevent when planning your destination wedding. Read on to make sure your special day goes off without a hitch.
Not handing out an itinerary
We always recommend giving out an itinerary to your guests when they arrive in destination or sending it to them digitally before they depart. It helps them know where to be and when and is especially useful if different events are taking place at numerous venues across the resort. That way they’ll know when they have time to soak up the sun poolside and when it’s time to be celebrating at cocktail hour!
Forgetting about your guests’ needs
While it’s your special day, you still want to make sure your guests feel comfortable at your wedding. After all, they did travel across the continent to celebrate with you! From dietary restrictions to accessibility needs and seating for blended families, make sure you take your guests’ needs into account when planning.
Picking the wrong attire
You want to make sure you’re comfortable while you’re exchanging your vows. Make sure you pick the outfit you’ve always dreamed of while still accounting for the logistics of your destination wedding. We recommend going for lighter fabrics that will prevent you from sweating on your big day – think linen suits in lighter colours and flowy fabrics like chiffon and tulle.
Forgoing a hair and makeup trial
If you’re particular about your wedding day glam, we recommend setting up a trial run with your hair and makeup artist before the big day. This is an especially good idea if you’re using the resort’s on-site stylists, as trends that are popular in the Caribbean or Mexico can be different from trends back home. By doing a trial, you’ll be able to provide feedback and ensure your look on the big day is flawless.
Not having an idea of your guest list
We know that guest list sizes will change, but it’s always a good idea to have a rough estimate of your guest count. If you don’t know how many people are coming, it can be hard to decide upon ceremony and reception locations, as most venues have specific capacity limits. Plus, it’ll be tricky to price the cost of everything else if you don’t know your guest list size!
Spending astronomical sums on flowers
If you have specific flowers in mind that aren’t grown in your destination, the cost to have them brought to your wedding can easily break your budget. You can work with your wedding planner and vendors to find arrangements that can be sourced locally while still giving you the same look.
Not hiring a photographer or videographer
It might seem like a big expense, but you’ll never regret having professional photos or videos of your special day. You’ll want to have those memories to last a lifetime – and to post on Instagram!
Not asking questions
If there’s something you want to change, just ask! It’s better to ask and hear no than to not ask and find out later it could have been possible, from adjusting the menu to upgrading your décor.
Trying to check-in at the airport with an expired passport
Enough said.
