Say “I do” at an eco-resort

There are plenty of resort options that are eco-friendly and dedicated to maintaining our planet with environmentally friendly structures and practices. Sandos Caracol Eco Resort is a popular choice and has been certified by the prestigious Rainforest Alliance for its work with the local Mayan community, the All-Nature Experience and animal rescue and repopulation efforts. There are also several natural cenotes throughout the resort grounds where you can host a serene ceremony. The newly opened Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Cancun is also committed to eco-friendly initiatives with the Save Our Planet initiative that includes keyless bracelets, the elimination of plastic bottles and straws and sourcing produce from local farmers.

Opt for digital or recycled invitations

Go green on the invites by sending out beautiful digital invitations to all your guests. Digital evites are also a great way to save on your budget, as the cost for traditional paper invitations can rack up quickly. There are plenty of websites you can use to design and send out your own invitations online, including Minted and Evite (both of which offer free and premium options). Still want to send out traditional paper invites? Lots of companies offer options that can be printed on recycled paper or even unique plantable paper – after receiving the invite, you can plant it in soil where it will sprout into flowers, leaving your guests with something that will last long after the wedding day.

Use local greenery and florals

We always recommend that couples try and source their flowers locally – not only does it save money and bring a touch of your destination to your big day, but it’s also great for the environment. When you select greenery and florals that are grown locally in your destination, you’ll be reducing your environmental footprint as the blooms won’t need to be flown or driven in. Luckily, you’re getting married in an exotic tropical location, which means there are plenty of gorgeous options to choose from that can be found right in your resort’s backyard! Gift reusable mugs as favours

Swap out the plastic by gifting reusable mugs as wedding favours! Your guests will be able to use their reusable mugs around the resort, from the swim-up bar to the beach club, eliminating the need for plastic cups and straws. Plus, it’ll keep your drinks colder for longer, so you can keep sipping on frosty margaritas as you bask in the hot Caribbean sun. Get the mugs personalized with your guests’ names, their bridal party role (like Bridesmaid and Best Man) or your wedding date and destination, and pick shades from your colour scheme.
