Wedding Inspiration: Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2021
Every year, Pantone releases their Colour of the Year, the year’s hottest shade which takes inspiration from trends and fashion from the last 12 months. We asked one of our destination wedding experts, Tiffany, to provide inspiration on some of her favourite ways to include Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2021 into your destination wedding day. Read on and get inspired for your dream day in paradise!
Pantone has officially released their Colour of the Year and this year, for the very first time, it includes two shades: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow. Ultimate Gray represents “a stable foundation” as we move into the new year while Illuminating Yellow adds a touch of positivity. The two colours were carefully chosen to focus on our resiliency after the tough times of 2020 and to help bring hope and strength moving into 2021.
There are plenty of ways you can incorporate these two colours into your destination wedding. And it doesn’t have to stop at your wedding day – you can incorporate the colour scheme into pre- and post-wedding events like your bachelor/bachelorette party, welcome reception, engagement celebrations and more. Want to incorporate the colour scheme into your big day? We rounded up some of our favourite ways to incorporate Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow into your destination wedding.
Wedding invitations and printed materials
Your wedding invitations are the first look your guests will get at your wedding aesthetic and incorporating your colour scheme is a great way to tie together your overall décor look. You can use one of the colours as the main colour and the other as a more subtle accent colour and play around with the colour scheme of the paper, envelopes, font and fabrics. The two colours compliment each other so the options are truly endless!
Bridesmaids dresses
When it comes to your wedding party, both grays and yellows have been popular in recent trends for bridesmaids dresses. Whether you choose one colour or alternating options, you’re sure to have a winning combination. Some of my favourite options include pairing gray dresses with yellow bouquets, having half your wedding party in gray and the other half in yellow, and wearing gray shoes with yellow dresses.
Bouquets and wedding florals
Whether you’re going for a modern, Bohemian or traditional look, yellow flowers look gorgeous in every bouquet and floral arrangement. Some of our favourite yellow florals include sunflowers, daises and roses; and craspedias, chrysanthemum and snapdragons for a more unique option. Incorporate the gray by tying a gray ribbon around bouquets, placing arrangements in gray vases or tying yellow florals around gray chairs at the ceremony and reception.
Groom’s attire
Wedding day attire doesn’t have to be conventional! If you or your groom are looking for a unique suit option, add some flair by incorporating Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow. Opt for a gray suit with a yellow tie and pocket square, go more casual with gray pants and a yellow dress shirt or make a statement with yellow shoes and a gray suit.
Shoes
Forget something blue – we love how bright yellow shoes stand out against a white or ivory dress. For the more traditional bride, opt for gray shoes and play up the texture with satin or suede fabrics. You don’t have to stick with high heels the whole day either; swap out your fancier shoes for more comfortable flip flops or flats to dance the night away with your guests.
Reception décor
There are plenty of ways you can incorporate Pantone’s Colour of the Year into your wedding day reception. When using a main colour and an accent colour, incorporate the main colour into your largest elements like the table linens or centrepieces and then incorporate your accent colours into smaller elements like the napkins, printed materials and candle colours. Balance out the bright hues of Illuminating Yellow with a neutral shade like ivory or a bold hue like black.
Wedding cakes
Forget the traditional white wedding cake and get creative with your desserts! From customized icing, filling and florals, there are plenty of ways to incorporate Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow into your wedding cake. Alternate colours on each tier or have most of the cake gray with yellow accents like edible flowers and piping work.
We can’t wait to see all the different ways that couples incorporate Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2021 into their destination weddings! If you’re looking for more ways to add the shades into your décor, our destination wedding consultants can help bring your dream day in paradise to life.
