With engagement season upon us, plenty of people are thinking of popping the question – and what better place to start your forever than in paradise? Book the right resort and destination

First things first – you want to make sure you have the perfect setting for the big moment. You can’t really go wrong when it comes to picking out a tropical destination, as they’re all gorgeous, but if there’s a particular spot that’s been on your partner’s bucket list or a place you’ve made memories together before, you might want to take that into consideration when planning. When it comes to the resort itself, we recommend choosing one with a romantic ambiance and, if your invite list consists of adults exclusively, an adults only setting.

Pack the ring in your carry-on

Do not, we repeat do not, pack the engagement ring in your checked baggage. You want to make sure the bling is in your possession at all times, and while it’s rare for checked luggage to get lost, this is definitely not the moment to take your chances! Tuck the ring away safely in your carry-on bag, preferably a zippered pocket where you won’t have to worry about it falling out.

Hire a photographer

We always recommend hiring a professional photographer to document the big proposal and take some beautiful engagement photos afterwards. A lot of resorts have on-site photography services, or you can search social media for local photographers. Just keep in mind that if they’re coming onto the resort grounds, they’ll likely have to pay a nominal day pass fee.

Coordinate with the resort beforehand

If you’re going to be proposing at your resort, reach out to your resort beforehand to help with the arrangements. They can help with the set-up like a romantic beachside dinner, candles and rose petals. Some resorts even offer more proposal or romance packages like Royalton Riviera Cancun, An Autograph Collection All Inclusive Resort & Casino, which includes a beachfront dinner, chocolate-covered strawberries and a 25-minute couples massage.

Pop the question at the start of the trip

Wondering whether you should propose at the start or the end of the trip? There’s no bad time to do it, although popping the question at the beginning definitely has its advantages. When you get engaged within the first few days, you’ll be able to spend the rest of the trip celebrating as new fiancés. Plus, if you leave the proposal until the end, you might be dealing with nerves the whole time about whether they’ll say yes, which could take some of the enjoyment out of the vacay!
