Festive inspiration for your holiday destination wedding
The season of Mariah Carey songs, candy-cane-everything and cozy lights is finally upon us. Thinking of planning a holiday destination wedding in 2022 or 2023? It might seem tricky to incorporate festive touches into your tropical locale, but with the right blend of textures and décor, you can create an elegant look that’s far from tacky. Read on and get inspired for your festive nuptials!
Classic colour schemes
You don’t want to go overboard on the colour scheme (red and green might look a bit too much like the North Pole and not enough like a wedding), but you can incorporate festive colours into your décor scheme. We love pairing green and gold or red and gold; they provide a beautiful holiday ambiance without being overly kitschy. If you want to incorporate both red and green, we suggested using them as accent colours to a more neutral base, like white or cream.
Ornament wedding favours
It’s tradition for couples to give their guests a little something to thank them for coming to their big day. To keep up the holiday theme, why not gift your loved ones with a beautiful ornament? You can personalize the ornaments with your wedding date and destination or go for more generic options in your colour scheme. Make sure to wrap them carefully in your suitcase or go for ornaments made of durable materials like wood that won’t break in transit.
Lots and lots of greenery
Your guests will be dreaming of a green Christmas when you incorporate plenty of lush and exotic greenery into your wedding day florals. Not only does greenery look beautiful and tie in nicely with your holiday, but it also happens to be a more affordable option than expensive flowers and blooms. Wrap green garland around your wedding arch or gazebo, carry a bouquet or wear a boutonniere of different kinds of greenery and accent your reception tables with plenty of green florals.
Signature holiday cocktails
Add a merry touch to your wedding bar with some holiday-inspired signature cocktails! Some of our favourites include Moscow mules with a candy cane garnish, cranberry-orange cocktails with a sugared rim, cranberry mojitos and more. Basically anything with cranberries, red or pink hues and candy cane garnish is perfect. In the evenings, you can even serve classic hot toddies or spiked cocoa to keep your guests warm as they dance the night away.
The cake
Your wedding cake is a great way to incorporate your theme and add a bit of your personalities to your big day. Choose a white cake with red and green touches like cranberries or edible leaves or lean into more of a winter wonderland theme with a cake decorated in piped Christmas trees. You can even go for holiday flavours like red velvet or peppermint icing.
