After almost a year of quarantining, social distancing and working or studying remotely, we’re all dreaming of the day we can safely jet off to the tropics and enjoy a well-deserved vacation. The time will come where we can responsibly return to travel – but in the meantime, we wanted to help bring a ray of sunshine to these otherwise gloomy days! Read on for five ways that you can bring the vacation vibes to your living room.

Read a vacation-inspired novel

You might not be able to head down to the tropics right now, but you can still transport yourself to paradise by reading a vacation-inspired novel! Immersing yourself in a new fictional world helps you take a break from everyday life and is a great way to spend your time in quarantine. Reading also has plenty of health benefits like reducing stress by up to 68% (according to a 2009 study by the University of Sussex), improving the quality of your sleep, helping to fight depression and exercising your brain. Pick a fun beach read or go for a classic novel that’s set in an exotic setting like Treasure Island or Dr. No to feel like you’re in paradise. Looking for inspiration? We rounded up some of our favourite vacation-inspired reads.

Organize a quarantine spa day

Does your dream vacation include relaxing by the pool, getting a massage by the beach and spending time at the resort spa? After a stressful past year, we could all use a little rest and relaxation! Plan your very own spa day at home complete with face masks, mani-pedis, hair treatments and more. Light a coconut-scented candle, turn on some white noise music of waves crashing against the shore and picture yourself unwinding by the beach.

Get a taste of the tropics at home

One of the best parts of going on vacation is all the delicious food you get to eat. While you won’t be able to dine al fresco by the ocean for a while, you can still bring a taste of the tropics home by whipping up a tasty destination-inspired dish and mixing yourself a tropical cocktail or mocktail. There are a variety of destination-inspired dishes to try like homemade guacamole, chicken tostadas and curry chicken – all of which are sure to transport you and your taste buds to paradise. You can even pretend you’re at the swim-up bar and host your own happy hour at home with your family or roommates with tropical-inspired cocktails and mocktails like refreshing mojitos, salty margaritas, frosty daiquiris and more.

Plan a themed video call

By now we’re all sick of the same old video call. So why not spice things up with a themed virtual party? Invite your family and friends to get decked out in their vacation finest including sunglasses, floppy hats and Hawaiian shirts. You can play a few rounds of travel-themed trivia or organize an at-home virtual scavenger hunt. Whoever finds common travel items like their passport, suitcase and flip flops the fastest wins! To feel like you’re truly in the tropics, download one of our wanderlust-worthy virtual backgrounds and dream of the day when you can all be catching up poolside.

Find your Zen with online yoga sessions

Missing sunset yoga classes by the pool and morning jogs along the beach? With gyms closed across most of the country and cold temperatures keeping us cooped up inside, there are still plenty of ways you can get creative with your workouts at home. Royalton Fit™ is offering some of their popular fitness classes virtually, which you can find on our Youtube channel. Watch Royalton Fit’s “Stretch with Me” video and follow along with their Yoga Master as she guides you through various poses and stretches. You’ll find yourself in a Zen state of mind in no time!
