Tuscany Villas Pisa Area
Pisa, which rises 4 m above sea level and rests on the banks of the River Arno on a fertile alluvial plain, is known throughout the world for its striking landmark, the Leaning Tower of Pisa; however, Pisa offers so much more to see and experience. The area is characterized by sprawling vineyards, olive groves, and woodlands filled with chestnut, oak, beech, and a spattering of pine trees. A small mountain chain, which researches believe to be one of the most ancient, lies in the north-east, situated between the valleys of Arno and Serchio, and a river bed that was once the site of Lake Bientina. From the dazzling coastline to the verdant hills, the natural landscapes of Pisa are simply remarkable.

Pisas beauty is so inspiring, that it is no surprise this area has played a major artistic role for centuries and continues to be a centre of art and culture. Here, the renewal of architecture, sculpture, and painting anticipated the Florentine renaissance movement. Today, Pisa remains filled with castles, churches, and monasteries that are scattered across the countryside, perched on top of hills, nestled along rivers, and settled on ancient streets.

The historic towns of Pisa and Volterra allow visitors to travel back in time. Pisa, which lies on the north bank of the River Arno, is still enveloped by 12th century walls that represent an important part of the architectural heritage. Historical palaces and mansions, which date back to the 16th Century and still retain their beautiful facades, continue to line the High Street, while other historical buildings such as the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Campo Santo, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, dominate the Piazza dei Miracoli in the heart of the city. Volterra, which sits perched on a hill 550 m above sea level is considered a jewel of Etruscan, Roman, medieval, and renaissance art, and retains much of its historical charm. From the moment you pass the great Etruscan walls and walk through the ancient gates, you will be swept back into ancient times. Old house-towers are hidden in evocative corners, while renaissance palaces line the streets. Other notable historical sites include the beautiful Romanesque Duomo and several churches that date back to the 14th Century. Just below the wall, one can find the ancient Roman Theatre and the Roman Baths, while the Etruscan Acropolis, situated at the highest point, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the sea. Both towns also house an impressive collection of fine art in beautiful museums and galleries.

For those looking for the ultimate in relaxation, a visit to Pisas thermal baths is a must. Enjoy a soak in the therapeutic waters of Casciana Terme, San Giuliano Terme, and Uliveto Terme and feel all your worries and stress just melt away.

Villas in the Pisa area are located in the picturesque countryside near small medieval towns and hamlets, between the northern territory towards Pisa, Lucca, and Florence, and the south towards Volterra and San Gimignano.
