DAY 2
HUATULCO - OAXACA.
After breakfast depart from Huatulco for
Oaxaca. En route enjoy the picturesque landscape of the Southern
Sierra Madre and the central Valley of Oaxaca state. Reach the city
of Oaxaca in the early afternoon. Hotel check-in and relaxing city
walk to explore the historical center of Oaxaca, a jewel of colonial
architecture, built mostly of the green shimmering limestone which is typical the
region. Evening at leisure. OVERNIGHT AT HOTEL AITANA 3* OR SIMILAR
DAY 3 MONTE ALBÁN - REGIONAL MUSEUM OF CULTURES .
Breakfast included at hotel. Morning visit to Monte Albán, the archaeological
site of the former cultural center of the Zapotec culture. Enjoy
wonderful views of the valley and city of Oaxaca from the
plateau hill with its ruins of temples and observatory. In the
afternoon, visit the Museum of Cultures, located in the former monastery building
of Santo Domingo, also an architectural highlight. View interesting pieces of the
regional pre-Hispanic cultures, as well as the graves of founding kings in Monte
Albán. Evening at leisure. OVERNIGHT AT HOTEL AITANA 3* OR SIMILAR
DAY 4 OAXACA - TULE - MITLA - TEHUANTEPEC. Breakfast included at hotel.
Depart for Tehuantepec. The first stop is at the giant tree
of Tule that is more than 1000 years old and has reached
an extraordinary size. After this short visit, depart to
Mitla, the pre-Hispanic ceremonial center of the Mixtec
culture. Here, view the wonderful and diverse stone mosaics on the friezes
of the main temples. Continue to Tehuantepec, a small city in the south east
part of Oaxaca state. Return to hotel, where a refreshing pool is awaiting.
OVERNIGHT AT HOTEL CALLI 3-4* OR SIMILAR
DAY 5
TEHUANTEPEC - INDIAN VILLAGES - SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS.
Breakfast included at hotel. Depart for San Cristóbal de las
Casas and the area of Chiapas. Visit the indigenous villages
of Chamula and Zinacantan where the local Tzotzil Mayan
population celebrates the most bizarre rituals in their
churches. An interesting merging of pre-Hispanic and catholic mysticisms. In the
late afternoon visit San Cristobal de las Casas, the cultural and economic center
of the Mayan Highland region. Check-in at the hotel. Relax and discover this
picturesque colonial town
OVERNIGHT AT HOTEL PLAZA MAGNOLIAS 3* OR SIMILAR
DAY 6 TONINÁ. Breakfast included at hotel. Explore the valleys
and other areas of Chiapas state en route to Toniná, a
unique and wonderful archaeological site. Along the way
enjoy the sights of beautiful mountainous areas. Return
to San Cristóbal for an evening at leisure.
OVERNIGHT AT HOTEL PLAZA MAGNOLIAS 3* OR SIMILAR
DAY 7 SAN CRISTÓBAL - SUMIDERO CANYON - HUATULCO. Breakfast included
at hotel. An early morning departure from San Cristóbal de
las Casas heading towards the river of Grijalva and Chiapa
de Corzo village. Notice impressive steep rock walls rising
up into the sky that are over 3000ft high, the local flora
and fauna; from orchids to (with some luck) crocodiles that form a wonderful
landscape. In the afternoon, cross back to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and
return to Huatulco. Evening at leisure.
